Mountain San Antonio

View Mt. San Antonio in a larger map

Mountain San Antonio (Baldy), the highest point of Los Angeles County, is the peak of San Gabriel Mountains with 10,068 ft. elevation. San Gabriel Mountain is a Transverse Ranges formed around San Andreas Faults. Mountain San Antonio summit is one of the big four Southern California peaks, San Gorgonio Mountain, San Jacinto Mountain, San Bernardino Mountain and Mountain San Antonio (Baldy).

In 1880s, William B. Dewey hiked to the summit on a loop by connecting Mt. Baldy Trail and Devil's Backbone Trail.

This day hike starts from Trailhead at 6200 feet. It takes us on a fire road past San Antonio falls to ski area (4 miles) and then on trail across Devil's Backbone to the peak - about 7 miles with 3800 ft gain. We return on shorter 5 miles steep trail crossing stream and ending at water hole at San Antonio Falls - good for a refreshing dunk.

This is suitable as a family event and siblings can come as a beginning hike. This is the beginning of training for this summer’s Sierra Adventure.
