Scout Positions

Leadership roles are positions of responsibility in the troop, where scouts need to contribute their efforts for the benefit of the troop. These roles are necessary for advancing to Star, Life, and Eagle Scout ranks.

Senior Patrol Leader (SPL)

The senior patrol leader is the top leader of the troop and responsible for the troop’s overall operation and activities. The SPL is elected by leadership rank scouts annually.

Duties:

  • host troop weekly meeting

  • supervise outings

Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL)

The ASPL works with the SPL to lead the troop operations. Among their duties, the ASPLs supervise the troop quartermaster, scribe, historian, librarian, and instructors. The ASPLs are elected with SPL by leadership rank scouts annually.

Duties:

  • host troop weekly meeting

  • supervise outings

Patrol Leader (PL)

The PL is the top leader of a patrol. He supervises and is responsible for the patrol level's activities like camp food buying, enforces the duty roster, patrol members' advancement requirements. The PLs are elected by leadership rank scouts annually. They appointed their patrols' APLs and draft their patrol members in the leadership meeting.

Duties:

  • supervise patrol's camp food buying

  • enforce patrol duty roster

Assistant Patrol Leader (APL)

The APL is appointed by the PL and functions like a PL in PL's absence. The APL position does not count towards leadership requirements for Star, Life, or Eagle.

Quartermaster

The Quartermasters supervise the troop equipment inventory and maintain the gears in good condition. They are supervised by ASM-Quartermaster

Duties:

  • supervise inventory

  • maintain and setup troops' gears

Historian-Flag

The Historian-Flag collect and preserve troop trophies, flags, patches, awards, and other memorabilia and make materials available for Scouting activities.

Duties:

  • preserve troop flags, trophies, awards

  • carrying the flags to the weekly troop meeting and to the camping

  • teaching the younger scouts to perform the Flag ceremony, US flag code.

Historian-Photo

The Historian-Photo collect and preserve troop photographs, news stories. They are supervised by ASM-Photographer

Duties:

  • maintain troop's Picasa Photo Albums

  • maintain Facebook Fan Page which records troop history.

  • prepare and present troop activities slide show in the Court of Honor

Librarian

The Librarian oversees the use of troop books and merit badge pamphlets.

Den Chief

The Den Chiefs work with a den of Cub Scouts and take care of new recruited young scouts.

Duties:

  • attend Webelos bridging ceremony

  • attend Webelos to Scouts Fair

Webmaster

The Webmasters are responsible for maintaining the troop’s website. They are supervised by adult Webmasters

Duties:

  • Maintain troop's web site, file server, and other internet tools

  • News & Announcements - Create the following for every item listed in the Troop Calendar:

    • Announcement Page

    • Trip Information

    • Sign Up Sheet

    • Photo Album

  • Troop Calendar - keep it updated based on decisions made during the weekly scout meetings

  • Eagles Nest - create/update based on New Eagle Scout accomplishments

  • Troop Facebook Page - Post milestones & Achievements

  • Maintain/update Scouts Rank & Office on the sign-up sheet

Bugler

The Bugler plays the bugle to mark key moments during the troop outings.

Instructor

Instructors are senior scouts proficient in the Scouting skills. They must have the ability to teach scouting skill to others.

Duties:

  • present orientation to new scouts

  • give the lessons of totem chip, camp fire setting, Leave No Trace, backpacking, ..., etc.
