Mountain San Jacinto

Mt. San Jacinto, at 10834 ft. elevation, is the peak of the San Jacinto Mountains where inhabitants, the Cahuilla Indians, use for hunting and foraging. In Cahuilla stories, Mt. San Jacinto is the home of Dakush, a low flying meteor, which is the founder of the Cahuilla. It is also the home of demon Tahquitz.

The peak was named by a Wheeler Survey topographical party led by Charles Thomas. It is one of the "Three Saints', that are the highest mountains in each of the tallest mountain ranges in Southern California. They are Mt. San Gorgonio of the San Bernardino Mountains, Mt. San Antonio of the San Gabriel mountains, and Mt. San Jacinto of the San Jacinto Mountains. .
