These safety protocols must be strictly followed at all times. Failure to comply may result in restricted access to the equipment for the remainder of the outing.
Jet Ski Operation
Driver Age and Certification:
Only individuals aged 16 or older are permitted to drive the jet ski.
Drivers must possess a valid California Boater Card regardless of the outing location. Apply and complete the safety course at California Boater Card.
Permission:
All scouts and adults must obtain permission from the Scoutmaster or an ASM before driving the jet ski.
Supervision:
ASMs or designated responsible adults will monitor jet ski operations at all times.
Passenger Safety:
Drivers are responsible for passenger safety, including anyone being towed.
Maximum of 2 people (including the driver) allowed on the jet ski at any time.
Safe Operation:
Driver must immediately stop when the person being towed falls off the wakeboard or kneeboard.
Watch for the toe rope and avoid running over towing ropes to prevent engine damage.
Do not exceed 25mph.
Turn off the engine in shallow waters (< 6 feet) to prevent damage from rocks or sand.
Safety Equipment:
Life jackets are mandatory for all drivers, passengers, and anyone being towed.
The jet ski key cord must be securely strapped to the driver’s wrist.
Prohibited Actions:
Rash or unsafe driving is strictly forbidden.
Violating any of these rules will result in immediate suspension from jet ski use for the rest of the outing.
Speed Boat Operation
Authorized Driver:
Only the Scoutmaster is allowed to operate the speed boat.
Launching the Boat:
Scouts and adults must assist the Scoutmaster in launching the boat by untying anchor ropes and gently pushing the boat away from the shore.
Securing the Boat:
When not in use, the boat must be securely anchored at a safe distance from the shore.
Safety Around the Boat:
Keep all other watercrafts away from the speed boat.
Do not board, jump on, or jump off the boat while it is anchored.
