Unfortunately the snow camp this weekend has been cancelled due to low participation.
Snow camp is one of the milestones in our program. It build confidence in the scouts realizing that they can overcome the challenge of staying a night in a tent (or igloo) at or below freezing temperatures. It requires to be prepared, have warm cloth and great sleeping bag and some pocket warmers might help too, but it offers great rewards!
This is a 5-mile round trip to Onyx Peak backpacking. We will ski/shoe several miles along the road to a flat area and will camp at a likely spot--we don’t need a stream since we can melt snow for water. It is a fairly gentle climb and all downhill coming back. There are some gentle slopes to practice skiing and falling down. We can tow sleds.
Activities at the meadow may include building an igloo or snow shelter and snowball fight.
Depart: Feb. 29, 2020, From South Lake Middle School
Return: Mar. 1, 2020

It is encouraged to bring pads as additional insulation from the snow. We will need as many snow shovels as possible (the small backpack ones), and sled type items as well as plastic canisters for making igloo blocks.
Be sure to attend the upcoming Troop Meetings. We will get organized and discuss ski/snowshoes rental. Snowshoes rental information: REI has 5 pairs of youth- many adult- member pricing $14/day.
