The San Jacinto Mountains are located in Riverside County and are named after Saint Hyacinth, or San Jacinto, translated in Spanish, who is popular patron in Latin America. The mountains are the northernmost part of the Peninsular Ranges, which run from Southern California to the southern tip of Baja California Peninsula. The highest peak in the range is of course San Jacinto Peak, which stands at 10,834 feet in elevation. The San Jacinto Mountains have a short growing season and is home to flora and fauna species including California Black Oak. It is a good backpacking outing for preparing scouts who want to go on the Sierras backpack.
