Mt. Wilson Day Hike is a 13.6-mile loop hike mostly in the shade. Hikers will climb up to Mt. Wilson (5,713ft.) peak and back. It's a strenuous day hike that has a 4,740 ft elevation gain. Hikers will be under pressure to finish the relatively long hike with the sun setting much earlier now. Most peaks we hike are 10,000 ~ 12,000 ft and even up to 14,000+ ft. Mt Wilson is indeed relatively lower. It is the only hike we do that hikers can have hot food and ice cream at the cafe on the peak! That means hikers can carry less water than usual because there is the water refilling source at the peak. There's also a very large telescope which was once the world's largest for quite some time!
