-- Pin-Hao N., Second Class, Feb. 2016
It was the second Big Bear trip that I went on, and I was a little bit excited, but also a little bit scared. I’m excited because I can try snowboarding again, but I’m a little bit scared because I am afraid I might do worse than everyone else.
The night we got there, it was about 10 or 11 p.m., and not many people were there, so I get to sleep on the bed in the room with a few other scouts. I put my luggage down, and I saw the Play Room, and several scouts are playing pool, foosball, and mini table tennis there. I played with some scout, and I went to sleep.
The next morning, several scouts and I had to get up early to get the snowboarding gears from the rental place, and I got my snowboard and my boots (I already have my goggles and helmet). When we got to the Snow Summit area, we were separated from Mr. A, so we waited for him, and while doing so, some scouts dug tunnels in the snow and made a snowball called “God Ball”. It was as hard as ice and they rolled it around the tunnels the dug.
Once Mr. A is here, we started the lesson. We practiced our heel edge, toe edge, and our turn, and once I got the hang of how to turn, Mr. A let me went with some other scouts to try harder slopes, and we tried Chair 4, Chair 9, and Summit Run. Summit Run is the easiest way down the top of the mountain, and it’s not that hard. I think it was relaxing and fun.
Once we got back from Snow Summit, I saw the frozen Big Bear Lake from out the windows, and I also saw some beautiful icicles. I really liked the trip, and I hope I will get the chance to go to it next year.
