It is one thing to wake up at 5:30 in the morning, but it is another feat to climb a mountain in the morning. It was a tiresome morning as I tried to regain my strength by sleeping during the ride up to the mountain. As we arrived at the mountain we started at about a 3,000 ft elevation. Jason, Darren, and I were not very psyched to hear that we would be climbing about 2,000 ft up the mountain. For the the first half a mile we descended down a paved road until we reached a bridge ending the initial downhill. Tia (Mr.A's Dog) soon started to lead the group with Mr.A.
At first I was beginning to think that the hike was not a big deal until the incline began to increase. As we started to climb we soon overlooked a,
"50 ft waterfall", except in reality it was just a small puddle dried out because of California's drought. The hike was still pleasant while we hiked down in the canyon under the excessive
amount of trees. Darren,Jason, and I chatted casually while we hiked to keep our mind off the hike and then reached a campsite to take a short rest for the legs. As we rested Mr.A and the other adults marched forward quickly. We soon pushed ourselves to continue and catch up to the others. In the distance we saw Mr.Chuang and quickly joined him for the last portion until the peak, switchbacks. As we pushed forward fatigue began to kick in on all of us causing us to take many breaks. We took every switchback one step at a time trying to keep an even pace. At times I fell behind, but through determination I quickly caught up with the others. As we kept hiking the view of the mountain began to unfold. The rays of the sun gleamed at our faces as sweat slid down our necks. I thought the climbing would never end until Darren spotted the cafe just on the other side of the mountain. Hopes began to rise and strength too as we climbed to the peak. We were happy to see the rest of the adults there too.
At the top of the mountain we visited the observatory that held a telescope that was ranged the largest from 1908 to 1938. The air conditioning in the observatory was relaxing as we took a short rest there while taking pictures. We soon departed for the cafe but along the way we stopped and visited the museum to see the history behind Mt. Wilson. After having a little history lesson we finally made our way to the cafe for refreshing ice cream sundae. As Darren and I ate our sundaes, Jason ate a hotdog. Just one scoop of the ice cream was truly like heaven on a spoon. Once we finished our delicacies we decided to take the other trail of the mountain to make the hike a loop.
The journey down the mountain was much more relaxing the journey up. Each step I took was a step of joy as I knew I had accomplished a lot by taking the hike. As we reached the bottom we decided to have dinner at a Chinese restaurant. We had many delicious dishes to end the day.
